BOOMSLANG's Winter League schedule got off to an exciting start this past Saturday as the season opener featured a tight contest between Boomslang Basketball Club and the Greenwich Stars at The Leffell School in Hartsdale, NY. BOOMSLANG came out firing on all cylinders as Julia and Nellie led the team in scoring in a back-and-forth first half battle. After a quick halftime break, Isla, Sabella and the rest of the team turned up the pressure on defense and kept things close as Zoe fought her way up the floor, breaking the press and running the offense. Molly was able to maneuver herself into great position time and again keeping the game close as Emily and Samantha both made impressive debuts for the club including numerous steals and rebounds. After a few weeks of practice, the team was ready to finally face an opponent and get the winter season off and running and they did not disappoint the loyal BOOMSLANG fan base!
On Sunday, game two of the season featured a match-up against Born Leaders Basketball in the early game - the very early game. After a wake-up call of 6:30am, the girls were ready to go as Born Leaders came into the game with a record of 1-1. Violet, Katie and Anika made their winter debuts, both connecting on multiple scores and making an impact on the defensive end for BOOMSLANG. The girls then took the momentum from game one and carried it over to The Leffell School where they faced the Riverside Hawks in the third game of the season. This was the first time in league history these two talented clubs competed against each other. With Rob Adams on the call broadcasting the game on 'The Boom Mic', the team continued their run of impressive second halves and turned up the intensity making every adjustment Coach Ron gave, forcing the Riverside Hawks to adjust their game strategy after halftime, wrapping up what was a very exciting first weekend of the winter season!
